What is shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a safe and effective therapeutic hands-on therapy using the thumb pressure method developed by Tokujiro Namikoshi in Japan in the 1920's. It has been practiced throughout Japan under their health care act since 1955. Shiatsu is the application of soothing and comfortable pressure to various anatomical points on the body by the thumbs, fingers and the palm of the hand.
What is the aim of shiatsu?

It speeds recovery and rehabilitation after illness or accident, and reduces the harmful effects of stress on the body without the use of drugs. Who benefits from a shiatsu treatment?
Shiatsu is a non-invasive therapy and is beneficial for people of all ages and conditions, including the elderly, children and pregnant women. Shiatsu is the art of balancing the energies and strengthening vitality. It is not necessary to be ill to experience the benefits of Shiatsu. How is shiatsu applied?
Shiatsu is administered to a client lying on a soft mat of the floor, or special therapy table or chair. The length of the treatment varies in time depending on the nature of the problem but usually takes less than one hour. Pressure is applied to the whole body except when there is a specific pathological condition, in which case the treatment is localized.
